As
members of a yacht club, everyone ought to know how to sail. Maybe
not good enough to win the America’s cup, but good enough to get from here to
there and back. The kids all learn, why not you? Once again we are going
to give you that opportunity.
We will conduct an adult sailing
school Tuesday, July 6th through Friday, July 9th. This will be a
beginners’ course. We welcome anyone interested in learning the basics of sailing.
We have found that an intensified 3 day course has more of an impact on
teaching you how to sail than spreading it out on days throughout the summer.
Note that we aim to have the course last for only 3 days, but because we are
liable to get blown out by strong winds or stalled by complete calms on one of
the days, we schedule it for 4 days. So, if you are planning to take the
course, please make a commitment for all 4 days. We will be done right after
lunch on Friday no matter what.
The
course will start at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, July 6th at the main clubhouse and run
until 3:00 PM with a break for lunch. We will have the same schedule on
subsequent days. We will conduct the lessons in 15’ Sandpiper catboats. We will
be using as a text “Learn Sailing Right” put out by US Sailing. You will
receive a copy as part of your fee.
Because lunch will be included and the cost of the course materials
there will be a charge of $50 per participant for the course which will be
charged to your account.
If you
plan to take the course, please contact Bob Post by June 11th so that I can
line up enough instructors and boats. Fill in the registration
form attached and return it to me or provide me with the information via e-mail
