2010 MYC Junior Program Registration
Dear Families of Juniors,
We have a new
registration system that is linked to our website. All your personal information will be saved so
that each year you only have to update. You are assigned a password so that only
you can view your child’s information. If you forget your password you can have
it e-mailed to you. I’m sure there will be some question the first time you use
it but if you read all the fine print, most of your questions will be answered.
Please read
the following information and click on the link at the end of this letter to
complete your registration form. The sooner you register the more
organized we will all be at the beginning of the season.
PLEASE NOTE: You
must MAIL Tennis payment to Pat.
Sailing Fees will
be billed to your MYC account.

MYC Jr. Sailing
Program
I am pleased to
report that Mike Spark will be returning as our Head Sailing Instructor for
summer 2010. He will have an enthusiastic and experienced staff working with
him.
If your child is
new to the MYC sailing program, we would like to welcome you and give you some
basic information. The Program is available to children age 8 on June 28th,
2010 or entering 3rd grade in Sept. up to age 18. The Jr. Sailing Program offers instruction in Optimists and 420s, from
beginner to advanced levels. The Optimist is a small single handed learning
boat which is great for beginners but can become a great competitive boat for a
more advanced sailor. The 420 is a double handed boat for pre-teens and
teenagers who want to continue their sailing instruction beyond Optimists. If
your child is 8 to 12 years old and new to sailing, he/she must own his/her own
Optimist. Many children start out with a used boat. If your child is a
teenager and a beginner sailor, he/she can join the beginner 420 program as a
crew. Please contact me if you need help finding a boat to purchase.
The Jr. Sailing
Program will begin on Monday, June 28th and end on Friday, August 20th.
There is an important pre-program parent/child meeting on Sunday,
June 27th at 6pm with a cookout to follow. The instructors will review
important information about the program and MYC Sailing Team t-shirts will be
distributed as well. You will receive The Junior Sailing Program Handbook in
the spring which will include a calendar of events, regatta schedules,
directions, and basic sailing program guidelines.
Fleets
Similar to last
year we will have the following fleets:
Greenie Optimists - beginners
C Optimists -
Beginner/Intermediate
B Optimists -
Intermediate
A Optimists -
Advanced
B 420s - Beginner/Intermediate
A 420s - Advanced
When registering
your child, please note which boat he/she will be sailing. The Sailing staff
will divide the sailors into fleets depending on ability. If your child will be
sailing an Optimist, he/she must have their own boat. If your child is new to
420s, they can be a crew or borrow a club owned boat. Please let us know if you
own a 420. This question will be asked on the registration form.
Manto Minnows
This is a
pre-sailing class for children who are 7 years old and going into the 2nd
grade in the fall. This program will be run on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons
from 1pm to 3pm. The Minnows will start on Tuesday, July 6th and run for
six weeks to Thurs. Aug. 20th. The program will focus on learning
the parts of the Optimist sailboat, Sailing vocabulary, knot tying and becoming
comfortable on the water. Most of the program will be conducted on dry land but
we would like to get the kids on the water by the end of the six weeks. We plan
to take them out on Sandpiper sailboats and have them paddle around the basin
in an Optimist. Your child does NOT need to have their own boat for this
program. Please register your “Minnow” on the regular sailing form.
